Teacher Feature: Meet Dana Ripley

Tell us about your Yoga journey, where does your passion for yoga stem from? What was your first yoga session, what made you decide to go?

Yoga found me in 2010, during a high school soccer practice. Our coach hired a Yoga teacher to show us some new stretches and I was immediately hooked, feeling into areas of my body that I didn't know needed attention. Stretching was always built into the beginning of our practices and games, but somehow, I never paid mind to how or why we were stretching or how the breath would impact the stretch. I was blown away by how much better I felt after that session, realizing that I had only been going through the motions all along. I continued to learn and practice on my own through Comcast and Youtube videos until a friend took me to my first formal class at Corepower in 2012. The physical and psychological benefits were profound and inspired me to switch my career path from talk therapy to bodywork. As an introvert, I never saw myself teaching yoga, and started off as a massage therapist. As I continued my own healing journey, I found my anxieties around speaking and sharing falling away and was able to step into leading others quite naturally.

o Share a funny teaching moment - humor connects us all!!! :)

o What would you advise yoga beginners? There's no right or wrong way to do things. Just showing up and making an effort to move and breathe with your body is enough for a successful and beneficial Yoga practice!

o How can people find you?

I offer massage therapy, sound healing, movement and meditation classes in a variety of locations and settings, and I particularly enjoy working house calls and private events. All of my service and booking information can be found at embodiedmind.net
