I find humor in everything, and although I take teaching pretty seriously, I share it through an interactive and fun perspective, and I generally teach with my eyes closed unless I'm checking for alignment in certain practices. That being said, it is pretty funny to me that after over 18 years of teaching, sometimes I still mix up my lefts from my rights! I guess having great proprioception might be a lifelong process for me.
My yoga journey began in my momma's womb. I was raised in the Kundalini Yoga community, also called the Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization or the 3HO (look out for upcoming documentaries on how it was to live in these communities). I began my own long-term practices at 12 years old and started teaching at 17 after my first 500 hour teacher training in India. I decided to practice and learn other modalities of yoga when I was working a corporate job in 2015, and after over 1500 hours of training, I have learned to love being a movement guide in my own way.
As children we are mirrors, my momma has a video of me teaching yoga to my dad when I was around 2 to 3 years old. As adults, we can make our own decisions as to what feels good and freeing to our bodies which makes the perception and connection even better, so I strive to continue learning, growing, and healing myself through various methodologies.
I would advise beginners to try different classes and include a meditation practice! Having a certain class or practice for your mood or the season is like satisfying a sweet tooth. Give into your cravings especially when it comes to becoming or feeling more whole, and donut listen to the haters 😉. I love what yoga through meditation and movement does for my mind, firstly, allowing my body to become more rooted, and more connected to my spirit and soul.
